For University Students

Teach, earn recognition and get mentoring – for free

On [Platform Name], you can support high school students with your knowledge and experience, while also getting access to mentors who are already working or studying at the next level.

If you enjoy explaining things, want to add real experience to your CV, or simply wish you’d had someone to guide you when you were younger, this platform is for you.

Why become a tutor?

As a university student, you can:

  • Help high school students with subjects you know well.
  • Share honest advice about exams, applications and university life.
  • Build teaching, communication and leadership skills.
  • Show real community impact on your CV or LinkedIn.
  • Gain access to mentors who can help you prepare for internships, jobs and further study.

You don’t need to be a trained teacher. You just need to be reliable, kind, and willing to help.

What you’ll be doing

On [Platform Name], your role as a university student is:

  • To offer 1-to-1 online sessions (around 45 minutes) to high school students.
  • To listen carefully and explain topics in a clear, friendly way.
  • To be honest about your own journey – what helped you, what you learned the hard way.
  • To follow basic platform guidelines about safety and respectful communication.

Our focus is on support, not perfection. You’re there as a big brother/big sister figure, not as a strict teacher.

How it works

  1. Create your account
Sign up as a University Student and complete your profile:
    • Your university and course
    • Year of study
    • Subjects you can help with
    • Any experience with tutoring or mentoring (optional)
  2. Get ready to receive bookings
We’ll review your profile and, where needed, connect you with your school or institution. At this first stage we keep things small and focused so we can support you properly.
  3. Students choose you for a session
High school students can see your profile (subject list, short bio, availability) and book a 45-minute session with you.
  4. Run your online sessions
At the booked time, you both join the video call (details come by email and on your dashboard). You work through questions, problems, revision topics or general worries about school and university.
  5. Get feedback and build your profile
Students can share feedback after each session. Over time this helps you build a track record of positive impact and experience.

In later phases of the project, we’ll also connect your work with a points system that gives you access to mentoring sessions with professionals and postgraduate students.

What a typical session looks like

A standard 45-minute session might look like this:

  • 5 minutes – Get to know the student, understand their main problem or goal.
  • 30 minutes – Work through examples, explain concepts, check understanding, try different ways of explaining if needed.
  • 10 minutes – Summarise key ideas, give practical next steps (what to revise, what to try before the next session).

You’re encouraged to keep the tone friendly and relaxed. This is not a formal lesson in a classroom – it’s support from someone who’s recently been where they are now.

Expectations and guidelines

To keep the experience good for everyone, we ask that you:

  • Turn up on time and be prepared.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully.
  • Keep all communication inside the platform and the official calls.
  • Never ask for or share personal contact details, social media or money.
  • Let us know if something doesn’t feel right in a session.

As the platform grows, we may introduce school verification and DBS checks for regular tutors, especially those working with younger students. We’ll always be transparent about any steps like these.

Questions you might have

Do I get paid?
At this stage, no. The platform is free to use. The idea is to build experience, give back to younger students, and gain access to mentors and opportunities rather than direct payment.

How much time do I need to commit?
You decide. You can start with just one or two sessions per month and increase if you enjoy it.

Do I need teaching experience?
No. If you can communicate clearly, be patient and listen, that’s enough to start. We’ll share tips and resources as we grow.

Can I use this on my CV or LinkedIn?
Yes. Your work on [Platform Name] is real mentoring/tutoring experience and shows initiative, responsibility and community involvement.
