For Schools

Free academic and mentoring support connected to your school

[Platform Name] is a free online platform that connects:

  • High school students with university students for 1-to-1 academic support, and
  • University students with mentors (graduates/professionals) for guidance about the next steps.

As a school, you can oversee and support how your students use the platform, without having to build or run the technology yourself.

Why involve your school?

By connecting your school to [Platform Name], you can:

  • Give students extra subject support from university students who recently sat similar exams.
  • Offer them role models and realistic insight into university and careers.
  • Encourage aspiration and confidence, especially for students who may not have access to private tutoring or professional networks.
  • Monitor and support their participation, so you know who is engaging and how often.

The platform is designed to complement your existing work, not replace classroom teaching or school guidance.

How [Platform Name] works

At a high level:

  • High school students use the platform to book free 1-to-1 sessions with university students in specific subjects.
  • University students offer these sessions as tutors, and in return gain access to mentoring from graduates and professionals.
  • Mentors support university students with CVs, interviews, career paths and further study.

Everything happens online via scheduled video calls, with no payment or private contact details exchanged on the platform.

Your role as a school

As a school, you can:

  • Have a School Admin account on [Platform Name].
  • Confirm which high school students actually belong to your school.
  • Optionally confirm or recommend university tutors who have a connection to your school (former pupils, current volunteers, etc.).
  • See an overview of how your students are using the platform.

Our aim is to keep you informed and involved, not to create a parallel system outside your knowledge.

  1. School account
Your school receives a School Admin account with access to a secure area of the site.
  2. Students select their school
When high school students register, they can indicate which school they belong to (for example by selecting from a list or using a school code).
  3. You review and confirm
In your School Admin area, you will see a list of students who claim to be from your school. You can:
    • Confirm that they belong to your school
    • Mark them as not recognised, if needed
  4. Verified status
Students (and optionally university tutors linked to your school) can then display a simple “Verified by [School Name]” status inside the platform. This helps build trust and makes it easier to identify genuine users.

These tools are designed to evolve. As the platform grows, we may add more detailed reporting (for example, anonymised statistics on number of sessions per year group or subject).

Safeguarding and safety

We take safeguarding very seriously. Some of the key principles:

  • No fees, no payments on the platform – students are not asked for card details.
  • No public personal contact details – communication and video sessions run through the platform and its tools.
  • Clear behaviour guidelines for students, university tutors and mentors.
  • Easy reporting – students and schools can report any concerns so we can investigate.

As the project develops, we are exploring:

  • The use of DBS checks or equivalent for regular tutors working with under-18s.
  • Closer partnerships with schools and universities to align with existing safeguarding policies.
  • Additional logging and moderation tools for session activity.

We welcome input from schools on how to make the platform as safe and useful as possible.

What it costs

From the school’s point of view, [Platform Name] is free to use for:

  • Students
  • University tutors
  • Mentors
  • School staff in their School Admin role

The running costs of the platform (hosting, video infrastructure, AI matching and development) are covered separately by the project, not by charging schools or families.

Ways you can use [Platform Name]

Depending on your context, you might:

  • Share the platform with individual students who need extra subject support.
  • Encourage particular year groups (for example, Year 11 or sixth form) to sign up.
  • Use it in targeted programmes (for example, for students considering university who don’t have access to private tutoring).
  • Invite your alumni (now at university or in industry) to join the platform as tutors or mentors, keeping them connected to the school community.

You are always in control of how widely you recommend it and which students you encourage to take part.

Getting your school involved

If you are interested in trying [Platform Name] with a small group of students first:

  • You can request a School Admin account.
  • We can help you set up your school in the system and explain how verification works.
  • You can start with a pilot (for example one class or year group) and expand if it’s helpful.

Questions you might have

Is this a commercial tutoring service?
No. The platform is free to use. There is no payment, commission or upselling involved for students, tutors or schools.

Who are the university tutors?
They are university students who apply to support high school students in specific subjects. Over time, some of them may be former pupils from your own school.

Who are the mentors?
Mentors are graduates, postgraduates and professionals who volunteer to support university students with career and study guidance.

Can we see which of our students are using the platform?
Yes. With a School Admin account you can see which users have associated themselves with your school and, over time, basic information about their participation.

What about safeguarding checks?
We are designing the platform with safeguarding in mind and expect to make checks and verifications part of the process for regular tutors, especially those working with under-18s. We are happy to discuss how this aligns with your school’s policies.
